看 연리지 Now and Forever
A typical movie where the characters are down with some sort of terminal illness.
This movie reminds me of 《常在我心》 starring 陈奕迅 & 蔡卓妍.
However, this time, although both the male and female lead were ill, the female lead pretended not to know about the male's illness.
Seems to be just another teary touching love story?
But come to think about it, it's not that far from reality where many people are struggling with sickness or losing their loved ones, isn't it?
I like the intertwined tree.

读 Buddha Baby by Kim Wong Keltner
I was attracted to the new-looking cover and the title of the book.
In the end, I didn't quite understand the significance of the title and the story was nothing more than just about the life of a Chinese American girl.
Nevertheless, this is worth a thought :
What does being a Chinese (or any other ethnic group) mean to you?
We probably haven't thought about this question because we don't feel the pressure of being the minority. In the first place, being in a multi-racial environment, it is natural that we identify ourselves as Singaporean rather than Chinese. Well, which is good for the sake of racial harmony.
Being the pragmatic Chinese Singaporeans trying to act angmoh, we don't give a damn about "cheena" Chinese cultures and traditions. There just isn't a culture of celebrating festivals to begin with. Look at the Chinese in China and Taiwan who are celebrating Chinese Valentine's Day today!
Being a Singaporean Chinese means:
- Having a Chinese name (but not necessarily able to write)
- "Hugging Buddha's legs" before a Chinese exam (but may not know what is 临时抱佛脚)
- Getting angbows and eating pineapple tarts during Chinese New Year
- Eating mooncakes during Mid-autumn Festival
- Eating ba zang during Dumpling Festival
- Watching Channel 8 dramas on TV knowing that they suck
Singaporean Chinese or Singaporean, either way, we are just a sad bunch of people without a culture that is truely ours. Put aside singlish.
Even if we have, would we be proud of it?
Most likely, no. We are pragmatic. There are more important things than culture.
Maybe that's why I like Korea. Koreans share a unique language, culture and tradition which give them a common sense of identity. And I'm quite sure that Koreans are proud of their country on any other day and not only on National Day.
I am one sad Singaporean Chinese.

“抱歉，因为你不够村上春树。”
这是分手的理由。
为了讨好新女友而参加“模仿村上春树比赛”。
筹备比赛到了走火入魔的状态，
不知不觉走入村上春树的小说情节，
与不同故事的角色接触。
结果还是“抱歉，因为你不够村上春树 ”。
虽然不完全懂得故事中所提到的村上春树作品里的情节，
但喜欢故事在现实与虚构中所带来的想象空间。
突然很想读村上春树的作品。

想 Shopping 这东西
除了买东西，还是买东西。
This is what Singapore women like to do.
也许新加坡真的太小了。
There is nothing better to do.
小归小， 但为什么来来去去只懂得乌节路?
Tourists could do better than that。
开心也好，不开心也好，买东西似乎是最佳疗效。
The so-called Retail Therapy.
周末时，很多人就像获得赦免的囚犯一样。
终于挣脱了工作或学业的捆绑，暂且重获自由。
They have counted down to this day.
在有限的时间里， 买东西最重要。
其他的是其次。
They live to shop.

A moving story paced like a drama.
It's as if I could feel the struggles of the boy,
a boy who made a wrong decision,
a decision that haunted him
till he could atone for his sins many years later.
"There is no act more wretched than stealing.
When you kill a man, you steal a life.
You steal his wife's right to a husband, rob his children of a father.
When you tell a lie, you steal someone's right to the truth.
When you cheat, you steal the right to fairness."
...
Only to find that his father had "stolen" all his life.

做 Surveyor
Had a taste of getting people to do surveys. A short 2 and a half hours of experience wasn't that bad after all.
Just didn't like all the delays that were due to the disorganisation of the management. Once again, this just adds on to my impression that those people high up there have no regard for temps and students and are out to exploit us!
Two kinds of people surfaced quite obviously: the "glad-to-help-you" and the "don't-come-near-me". And yes, I'll try to be more like the former the next time someone approaches me to do a survey!

做 Project C.A.N
It's been quite some time since I did any community service. I didn't say volunteer work because those were really just part of fulfilling the requirements for CIP.
How realistic.
Yesterday was really volunteer work though.
The actual time and effort spent on door-to-door collection was quite mimimal. Maybe because many hands (and of course the many heads prior to the execution of the project) could do wonders.
Just a knock on the door and two types of people were exposed: the sincere and the insincere.
Not to forget those who had no canned food at home (as they sincerely claimed).

What a pretty man.
Someone in the theatre gasp out loud when...
In disgust and trauma I supposed.
NC16 seems like a useless classification.
It is not about age but about having a certain level
of tolerance and acceptance for what may seem controversial
(but in fact no big deal most of the time).
Well, unless that disgusted and traumatic viewer is under-aged.
Then it would mean that NC16 is just for show.
Which is even worse, or if not, just as bad.
